Visas for the UK

The Visa Section is responsible for entry clearance, and provides visa services to Tanzanians and others who wish to visit the UK either on business, for studies or as tourists.

Important visa notice

  1. A New student immigration system has been launched on 31 March 2009. Visit the UK Border Agency for more detail.
  2. All UK visa applications and related documents are sent to the British High Commission Nairobi, to be assessed and where visas will be issued for successful applicants. Please read the full details .

Public phone call times

Please note that the Visa Section will take telephone calls for visa enquiries on Monday to Thursday 1200-1400hrs and on Friday from 1000-1100hrs only. General information on how to submit an application and a full background to the visa process can be found on this website. You can also e-mail your enquiry directly to the visa section and you will receive an initial reply within the next five working days. If however you are unable to find the information you need or if you wish to call in regard to a specific application then please call between the stated times above.

Documentation relating to visa applications

We are unable to retain documents that are sent to us prior to an application being lodged. All relevant supporting documents must be provided with the visa application at the time it is lodged in person by the applicant. Sponsors should send any supporting documentation to the applicant so that he/she may include it with their application.

Please ensure you provide photocopies of all original documents that you would like returned to you – including your passport. The British High Commission will retain any original documents for which you do not provide a copy. We will not photocopy documents on your behalf.

No need to queue!

Apply on-line through www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk: you will normally get an appointment within an average time of one month. Always apply at least six weeks before you wish to travel! Please also note that non-online applicants may not submit applications at the High Commission on Fridays.

You will need to obtain an IOM Medical Certificate confirming that you are free from infectious tuberculosis (TB) if you are aged 11 and over and applying for visa to come to the United Kingdom for a period longer than six months.
