Our High Commissioner
Message from the British High Commissioner
Karibu!
I am delighted to be in Tanzania. In my short time here so far I have received a wonderfully warm welcome from Tanzanian people. I am much looking forward to visiting all regions of the country to meet more "Wananchi" and get a sense of the opportunities for development and the challenges that still face many Tanzanians.
I expect my three years here to be spent on further strengthening the UK's multi-faceted partnership with Tanzania. I will work with Tanzanian partners on issues of concern to us both which affect peace and security, both regionally and more broadly in the international arena. With a renewed commitment to UK assistance for Tanzania's development, the UK will continue to be Tanzania's largest provider of General Budget Support (GBS). A vitally important priority will be to find ways to improve the environment for trade and investment between our countries, more important than ever in the current economic climate, and for increasing Tanzania's prosperity.
I will also be keen to explore how the UK and Tanzania can work together on other issues, such as mitigating the impact of climate change on the environment, and managing migration between our countries and in the region. And I look forward to experiencing at first hand Tanzanian multi-party democracy in action, in the run up to the 2010 General Election and beyond.
So welcome to our website. I hope you will find it both a source of useful and interesting information about British Government policies and procedures, and a tool for building stronger links between us. If you have any comments, suggestions or queries please feel free to
British High Commissioner to Tanzania, Diane Louise Corner.
