It is possible for visitors to get married during their stay, either on the mainland, or in Zanzibar. On arrival the couple has to go to the district registrar to apply for a special marriage licence, the cost of which is approximately £50.

It is possible to complete all the formalities within days. If you want to get married in a private location a separate licence is necessary. This can be obtained from the district registrar. Passports are needed for identification purposes and witnesses can be arranged easily. A letter from us confirming your nationality status is also required. This can be obtained from the Consular Section at the British High Commission in Dar es Salaam.

Marriages that are conducted here are legally recognised in the United Kingdom. Ensure that you obtain a certified copy of the marriage certificate.
